And so it begins.
This could be the most exciting, enjoyable and action-packed movie marathon ever.
Or it could be comfortably the dullest and most repetitive!
Rick, Dave, Mike and I (with Lucy, Sophie and Jess as supporting cast!) are to be the Fellowship of the Ring today, watching the three Hobbit films and then the Lord of the Rings films back to back.
Who knows what dreams I will have after that?!
During my school days, Lord of the Rings was an incredible book which I devoured time after time. The advent of the films between 2002 and 2004 was a stunning moment for me. I remember going with Tom and James to watch the first one and I could barely contain my excitement.
I knew every aspect and could comfortably identify all the areas that Peter Jackson had failed to include. Poor Tom Bombadil – the most unfortunate character in film history. How his story could have been different!
And, having done Star Wars and Harry Potter in recent years, it was time for the Middle-Earth Marathon to occur.
All I needed was some willing hobbits to accompany me in the brand new updated fellowship of the ring.
First of all, Sophie playing her role as Frodo incredibly well.
Lucy and Jess dipping in and out will have to be Arwen and Galadriel.
Mike bringing Elvish charm and sophistication as Legolas.
Rick, if and when he arrives, as Gollum…only joking. He can be Faramir.
Dave, with his relationship to Lucy, naturally fits as Aragorn. Think he’s quite happy with being anointed King.
As for me, never one to steal the spotlight, I’m happy to take the role of Gandalf.
So, eighteen hours will fly by.
NB: This article was amended after much thought and deliberation to update Dave, Jess and my roles. Probably too much thought and deliberation to be honest!
